You may sit in a
chair or cross-legged on the floor. If sitting in a chair, and assuming you are
right-handed,* the instrument rests on your left thigh and
your left foot should be raised slightly higher than your
right foot.
You can use a Guitar foot stool, or rest your heel against
the leg of the chair to raise your left foot
(picture #1, 2).
